kaiware sprouts

Kaiware are sprouted daikon radish seeds used in Japanese cuisines. These sprouts have a spicy radish flavor with peppery and pungent flavors. They are also very healthy and rich in minerals and vitamins. Because of its crisp texture, Kaiware sprouts often appear in sandwiches, spring rolls, or when paired with sushi and sashimi. Kaiware sprouts, also commonly used as garnishes in soups and stir-fries. The Japanese have been eating kaiware since the Heian period (794-1185) because each radish is hand-grown and therefore considered a luxury ingredient.
